About Alan
Alan Mann was born and raised in Madison County, following several generations that have raised families here. He is the second of three children born to Clifton and Margaret Mann who raised their family on a family farm in Owens Cross Roads. Living on the farm, Alan learned early the value of work, the importance of serving others and to take pride in his community. Alan attended New Hope High School where he was a four-year football player and president of the student leadership club. He graduated from New Hope in 1986. He graduated from Auburn University in 1990, obtaining his BA degree in Criminal Justice. Alan graduated from Jones School of Law in 1993 and returned to Madison County to begin his legal career.
Alan worked as an Assistant District Attorney for Madison County from 1993-1998. During his time as a prosecutor, Alan prosecuted hundreds of cases and tried cases in every court in Madison County. As an Assistant District Attorney, Alan handled all type cases including felonies, misdemeanors and juvenile cases. Alan began his private practice in 1998 and quickly gained attention as a skilled criminal defense lawyer. He has handled over 1200 criminal cases and has tried to a jury every variety of criminal case. Alan has handled over 20 murder cases, including 17 capital murder cases. He has tried numerous death penalty cases. Alan has tried jury trials in every Circuit Court in Madison County as well as in several surrounding counties. Alan has also practiced extensively in the Real Estate area and has a thorough knowledge of real estate, probate and property issues. He has also handled numerous civil matters. Since June 2007, Alan has been an associate in the firm of Johnston, Moore and Thompson in Huntsville. He is a member of the Huntsville/Madison County Bar association, the Alabama State Bar Association, the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the National Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Alan is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court and was selected in 2007 as a Criminal Justice Act Panel Attorney for the U.S. District Court, Northern District. His broad professional experience would provide unique perspective and objectivity to the judiciary of Madison County.
Alan has always remained active in this community. He and his family are active members of the Twickenham Church of Christ where Alan has served as a deacon, ministry leader and Sunday school teacher for many years. He has coached youth sports in Huntsville for the past 9 years. Alan’s kids attend school in the Huntsville City Schools and Alan has been active in PTA, Booster Clubs and various school activities. He has taught numerous times as an adjunct teacher at Calhoun Community College and Faulkner University.
Alan has been married to the former Amy Russell for the past 20 years. Alan and Amy have three children: Russell (16), a junior at Grissom High School, Olivia (15), a sophomore at Grissom High School and Megan (11), a sixth grader at Whitesburg Middle School.
