GOP candidate worked 5 years in local D.A.’s office

Alan Mann, who at age 40 has already handled more than 1,000 criminal cases, said Thursday he will seek the newly opened Madison County Circuit Court judgeship in next year’s election.

Mann said he will run as a Republican.

Huntsville, AL (September 3, 2009) – A recently added Circuit Judgeship in Madison County has its first candidate. Today Alan Mann announced he will run as a Republican for this new position, which was approved by the legislature and will be on the ballot for the first time in 2010. The new judgeship was created to help alleviate the backlog of cases in Madison County.
Mann is a lifelong resident of Madison County and is a highly respected member of the Huntsville legal community with more than fifteen years of experience in all areas of the law. He served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Madison County District Attorney’s Office from 1993-1998, where he prosecuted hundreds of crimes, ranging from felonies to juvenile court cases. In private practice since 1998, Mann is now an associate with the Huntsville firm of Johnston, Moore, and Thompson. Mann has handled over 1000 criminal cases and has tried many jury cases, including numerous capital murder cases. He also specializes in real estate matters. He is a member of the Huntsville/Madison County Bar Association, the Alabama State Bar Association, the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the National Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Mann is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court and was selected in 2007 to be a Criminal Justice Act Panel Attorney for the U.S. District Court, Northern District. His broad professional experience will bring a sense of competency, fairness and objectivity to this newly created judgeship.

Mann is also an active member of the community. He and his wife, Amy, are active members of the Twickenham Church of Christ, where he has served as a deacon, ministry leader, and Sunday school teacher for many years. He has coached youth sports in Huntsville for the past eight years and has been active in his children’s PTA and booster club organizations. Mann has taught numerous classes as an adjunct instructor at Calhoun Community College and at Faulkner University. Mann received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University in 1990 and his Juris Doctor from the Jones School of Law in Montgomery in 1993. He and his wife, the former Amy Russell, have been married for nineteen years and have three children.
